I know just what you mean, you have to wonder about the state of mind of some writers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5518791629286178662.post-24637757077137022462010-01-26T13:30:47.767-07:002010-01-26T13:30:47.767-07:00Yes. However, the tone could be a bit much for readers.-Slamel-https://www.blogger.com/profile/00787490247900515547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5518791629286178662.post-27994020187864487962010-01-26T10:28:33.282-07:002010-01-26T10:28:33.282-07:00As touched on in the review, my main issue is with...As touched on in the review, my main issue is with the story itself. The moral ideas and the discussions on free-will and the like ARE interesting. However, that doesn't make up for an average story in an average mystery/thriller.

Here is the thing; Bakker is an amazing author. I think part of my personal dislike is due to feeling let down. The more an more I've thought about it, the more I realize it. This book should have been so much more. I read a TON of mystery/thriller novels. Many of them rely on character stupidity to further the plot and to introduce tension. Unfortunately, Bakker falls into this same trap. The decisions the main PoV makes, especially with regards to his kids, are absurd. As a father, this stood out to me, and became a glaring indicator that this novel was more of a vehicle for Bakker to discuss The Arguement rather than put his awesome stamp on the genre.

But that's me. Knowing Nick the way I do, I knew right away that he would like the novel more than I did. He is WAY more into that type of psychological discussion/debate/thing than I am. And he understands it way better than I ever hope to. Reviewing this novel was and interesting experience, to say the least.Steve the Bookstore Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02237292117795968540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5518791629286178662.post-86720855154226161842010-01-26T09:52:02.616-07:002010-01-26T09:52:02.616-07:00Well i picked this book up because it was very hig...Well i picked this book up because it was very highly recommended on pats fantasy hotlist and at that time i wanted to try something else than fantasy.even though i liked the tone and what bible told about the human and i liked the ending, would have been pretty shity if they drove away from there all reunited and happy with no harm done.but for some reason i didnt find it really good and i cant tell you why, for me this book is the perfect example for an mediocre thriller book if you can tell me why i didnt like it too much please do.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
